Held in collaboration with the Institution of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST), the lecture disseminates marine engineering research and gives junior academics a platform for promotion-bearing work.
Alongside sponsoring cadets, the Foundation organises the Prof Kelvin Bob-Manuel Distinguished Annual Lecture in collaboration with the Institution of Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture. The lecture exists to circulate current marine engineering research, and specifically to give junior guest lecturers in academia a venue to present work that counts toward their promotion — supporting the wider pipeline of maritime expertise in Nigeria, not just the cadets the Foundation sponsors directly.
Engr. Oyinbrakemi John Nabena, Business Head, Marine Services, Hyprops Nigeria Limited — Held on 12 May 2026 with the Foundation’s 3rd anniversary. The lecture argues that ROV, AUV and sonar inspection combined with cold repair methods can extend the life of FPSOs, pipelines and terminals without shutdowns or hot work, and that Nigeria must build local engineering capacity to run these systems.
Engr. Adokiye Precious Charles, NNPC Ltd — Held on 19 June 2024 with the Foundation’s 1st anniversary. The lecture covers security, crude theft, ageing infrastructure and host-community needs in the Niger Delta, and proposes fiscal reform, stronger collaboration and cleaner production as Nigeria manages the energy transition.
