About the Foundation
To sponsor robust training and education of young graduates of Marine or Mechanical Engineering — as cadets — so they can acquire the skills to sit the examination for Certificate of Competency, Officer in Charge of Engineering Watch (OOW unlimited).
Marine engineering plays a vital role in the development of a nation — in transportation of passengers and cargo, in oil and gas production and export, in fisheries, tourism and environmental protection. By increasing the pool of maritime-skilled manpower, we support the country's economic growth while creating internship opportunities for otherwise unemployable young graduates, helping them gain the experience they need for appropriate employment and a better standard of living.
Fund further training at maritime academies and sea time (internship) on appropriate vessels for graduates of marine or mechanical engineering, as cadet officers.
Organise the Prof Kelvin Bob-Manuel Distinguished Annual Lecture in collaboration with the Institution of Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture, disseminating marine engineering research and giving junior academics a platform for promotion-bearing work.
The Foundation is led by a Board of Trustees chaired by its founder, Alabo Prof. Kelvin D. H. Bob-Manuel, with a Board of Management responsible for day-to-day running — including a manager who, by design, is a marine engineer able to visit and monitor cadets during their sea time. Trustee and management remuneration is set by the Board of Trustees.
